The Federal Parliament Secretariat has been formally asked by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to organize a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives (HoR) on May 20. The Speaker’s press advisor, Shekhar Adhikari, affirmed that the PM had asked for the vote of confidence to be added to the May 20 schedule.

The Prime Minister must submit a resolution in the House of Representatives for a vote of confidence within 30 days of a political party in a coalition government withdrawing its support for the PM, as per Article 100(2) of the Nepalese Constitution.

Prime Minister Prachanda is set to seek the vote of confidence following the withdrawal of support from the Upendra Yadav-led Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), Nepal, which occurred on May 13 following a split in the party.

The present government, led by CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, consists of coalition members including CPN (UML), Rastriya Swotantra Party (RSP), CPN (Unified Socialist), and various other political parties in the HoR.
