Dawa Lama, the Vice President of ANFA, has been released

Kathmandu, April 19

ANFA Vice President Dawa Lama, who was arrested last Wednesday, has been freed following revelations that he had obtained a Supreme Court order granting him bail.

Lama, who was convicted in a drug-related case and handed a five-year prison sentence, was apprehended by the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office and presented before the Patan High Court on Thursday.

According to SP Rabindra Regmi, spokesperson for the Crime Investigation Office, Lama’s release occurred following instructions from the Supreme Court to monitor him.

Lama’s legal ordeal began in 2007 when the Patan High Court found him guilty, sentencing him to five years in prison and levying a fine of Rs 5,000. Recently, police detained him, alleging that he had avoided serving his sentence.

Lama lodged an appeal with the Supreme Court against the High Court’s ruling and was eventually released after it was revealed that the Supreme Court had ordered his detention without immediate arrest.
